Our Director’s Message

Focused action, stronger systems and strategic partnerships.

GWEN TRUST has prepared an organisational strategy to move from the early stages of organisational formation into becoming a stronger force in the pursuit of girls’ and women’s rights.

The organisation is focusing its work so that it does not spread itself too thinly, while still protecting its identity and impact. Its approach is grounded in the principle of leaving no one behind and recognises that the vulnerability of girls and young women is shaped by many connected factors.

GWEN TRUST remains community-focused, working mainly in Greater Harare and surrounding communities, while staying open to serve other Zimbabwean communities where its skills are needed.

The strategy emphasises change at three levels: the individual girl or young woman, the community around her, and the policy or institutional systems that affect her rights and opportunities.

GWEN TRUST works through collaboration, referral systems, civic engagement and community ownership so that girls and young women can access information, protection, support and opportunities.

Support and partnerships for meaningful protection, advocacy and empowerment.

These partnerships bring together community structures, government departments, civil society organisations, men and boys, adolescent girls and young women, and local authorities to create a stronger support system around girls and women.

Imbamukadzi, Padare Enkundleni Men’s Forum on Gender and partner organisations

Support capacity building, collaboration in trainings and implementation activities. CALR can assist with access to policy makers, ZWLA can simplify policies and unpack legal instruments on gender equality and referrals, while Padare brings experience in engaging men in GBV conversations.

Government departments and ministries

These include Social Services, Women Affairs, Youth, Sports, Arts and Recreation, Local Governance, Home Affairs, Justice, Labour and Parliamentary Affairs, and Primary and Secondary Education. They help provide technical support, referral systems, co-facilitation, training and resources for young women’s advancement.

Community members, men and boys, adolescent girls and young women

They support community-based activities, reporting and feedback, youth-focused coordination, information sharing, programme design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

ZRP Victim Friendly Unit

Co-facilitates workshops on reporting and handling GBV cases, especially around elections, and supports interpretation of laws concerning abuse and protection of community members.

Manyame RDC, Chitungwiza Local Council, local leaders and committees

Support mobilisation and collaboration in initiatives while promoting local ownership of projects for sustainability.

Other NGOs and corporate companies

Strengthen networking, referrals, coordination of similar projects, information sharing, co-facilitation of workshops, sharing of good practices on gender equality and role modelling.
